Child Safety Policy

The Confidential Project

1. Our Commitment

The Confidential Project (TCP) is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for all children and young people (under 18) participating in our classes, programs, and private lessons. TCP has zero tolerance for child abuse, harm, or exploitation in any form. TCP adopts the principles of the NSW Child Safe Standards, which provide a framework to prevent, identify and respond to child abuse and harm.

This policy applies to all directors, teachers, staff, contractors, volunteers, parents/guardians and participants.

2. Child Safety Principles

TCP will:

  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to child safety and wellbeing

  • Promote an environment where all children are respected, feel safe, and are encouraged to express their views

  • Ensure strategies, risk management and behaviours prioritise child safety throughout our operations

  • Regularly review and improve our child safety practices in line with current best practice and regulatory guidance.

3. Staff Screening & Compliance

All TCP personnel working with or in contact with minors must:

  • Hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) as required under NSW law as well as an official Australian Police Check

  • Provide proof of WWCC prior to engagement

  • Comply with ongoing WWCC monitoring requirements

TCP reserves the right to refuse or terminate the engagement of any individual who fails to meet child safety screening requirements.

4. Conduct with Children

All TCP personnel must:

  • Treat children with respect, dignity and fairness

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times

  • Avoid any behaviour that could be construed as harmful, exploitative or inappropriate

  • Ensure any physical contact during instruction is safe, necessary, consensual and appropriate to the teaching context

Parents/guardians are encouraged to communicate relevant needs or concerns about their child’s wellbeing prior to participation.

5. Photography, Videography and Media

TCP may capture photos or videos during open classes or private lessons for educational or promotional use online (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, website).
Consent Requirements:

  • TCP will obtain written parental/guardian consent before using identifiable images of minors for promotional purposes.

  • Media will only be used in contexts that are respectful and appropriate.

  • Personal recording by participants or families without explicit TCP permission is not allowed.

6. Reporting & Response Mandatory Reporting

Under NSW law, adults have a civic duty to report if they know, believe or reasonably suspect a child is at risk of harm. (NSW Government)

TCP will:

  • Act promptly on all reports of suspected abuse or safety concerns

  • Cooperate with authorities where required

  • Take protective action to ensure the safety of affected children

All reports will be handled seriously, confidentially, and in accordance with legal obligations.

7. Anti-Defamation & Respectful Communication

TCP expects all participants, parents/guardians, staff and associates to communicate respectfully and refrain from defamatory behaviour. This includes:

  • Avoiding false, misleading, or unsubstantiated statements about any individual associated with TCP

  • Ensuring public comments — including on social media — do not harm a person’s reputation

  • Addressing concerns through appropriate channels rather than public accusation

Defamatory communication that harms the reputation of teachers, staff, or participants may result in disciplinary action and may be referred to relevant authorities or legal advisors.

8. Documentation & Record Keeping

TCP will maintain:

  • Records of WWCC checks, child safety training, incident reports and consent forms

  • Confidential files stored securely in accordance with privacy best practice

  • Documentation of child safety concerns, actions taken and outcomes

9. Review & Continuous Improvement

This policy will be reviewed regularly to reflect changes in law, standards and organisational practice. TCP may update this policy at any time to enhance child safety and compliance.
